2025 Millage Restoration Information
Save the Date for May 13, 2025
Gentry Public Schools is asking voters to consider bringing the district's millage rate back to 46 mills, where it was for many years through 2024 before the recent rollback to 44.4 due to assessment growth - the request is not to go above the original 46 mills. Below are conceptual drawings of the proposed projects for the millage restoration. These early sketches provide a general idea of the layout and key features, but details like colors and exact layouts may change as the project progresses. Below the images, you can find more information about our millage restoration.

Introduction
Gentry Public Schools is beginning the first phase of a strategic growth plan to address increasing enrollment and facility needs. The district’s millage rate was recently reduced by 1.6 mills, from 46 to 44.4, due to assessment growth. The district is now requesting to restore the 1.6 mills, bringing the rate back to 46 mills, which it had been through 2024 before the recent rollback. This request is not for an increase beyond the previous 46 mills, only a restoration. The ballot will use the term "increase" because the rate is going up from the rolled-back 44.4 mills in place as of 2025 to the original 46 mills.
Voters will decide on this restoration in May 2025, with funds allocated for a middle school classroom addition, which will also function as a storm shelter for approximately 750 people, and the construction of a new Pioneer Arena. The classroom addition will help alleviate shared space between the middle and high school, freeing up room for both. The new arena will create additional space for program growth, including wrestling, volleyball, and other events.
The restoration of the 1.6 mills back to the original 46 does not prevent other important initiatives, such as academic advancements, facility maintenance and improvements, or long-term plans, from moving forward. This request is simply asking voters to restore what was lost in the rollback to the original 46, providing funding to address some immediate projects. It’s important to note that this restoration will not hinder our ability to pursue other goals—whether in the classroom, with facility upkeep, or with future development plans. Both can happen simultaneously to ensure the continued growth and success of our district.
Our approach is based on strategic planning, developed through consultations with contractors, state officials, and other experts who have reviewed our facilities and enrollment trends. This collaborative process ensures that we are considering a wide range of factors, both for our immediate needs and long-term goals. With the guidance of professionals in the field, we have been able to make informed decisions that balance current challenges with future growth. Their input has been invaluable in helping us develop a plan that is both thoughtful and sustainable for the district’s continued success.
If the plans proceed after the vote, the final details will be determined based on the bid numbers that come in at the time of the project. These numbers can be influenced by a variety of market factors, such as material costs and labor availability, between now and then. While we have outlined the general plans, it is important to note that the final scope and budget will depend on these factors. We are working to anticipate all variables and hope for no unexpected surprises during this process.
