At Gentry Public Schools, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. As we move into the winter season, we’d like to provide a reminder of how we handle school closures due to inclement weather. We make these decisions with careful consideration, closely monitoring weather forecasts, assessing road conditions when possible, and consulting with neighboring districts for consistency. Please note that some closures may be determined on a district-by-district basis, depending on specific factors. If you don’t hear any announcements regarding school closures, it means school is running as usual. Once a decision is made, we will notify you through our website, social media, text alerts, the district app, and local news outlets. If school is in session but you feel weather conditions make it unsafe for your children, we respect your decision to keep them home. However, please keep track of how many days your child has already missed. If there are extenuating circumstances—such as downed trees or other weather-related issues—that may qualify for an excused absence, please contact your school’s administration to discuss the situation. We aim to make closure decisions as quickly as possible, carefully balancing the need for safety with our commitment to providing quality education. Additionally, please note that AMI (Alternative Methods of Instruction) days are no longer in effect, so any missed school days due to weather will need to be made up according to the district calendar. There are no weather-related concerns at this time. We’re simply sharing this information as a courtesy to remind everyone of our approach to inclement weather closures as we enter this season. Thank you for your understanding.

Today, we want to celebrate our Lady Softball Pioneers who are playing at the next level. Kyleigh Wheaton is the daughter of Amanda Jennings and Brett Wilson. Mazzi Jones is the daughter of Cody and Traci Jones. Favy Najar is the daughter of Roxy Najar and Dustin Clapp. All three of these ladies are still representing Gentry well with good grades, good leadership, and good softball. Additionally, all three played travel softball throughout most of their softball careers for Coach Clay Stewart, who was also an assistant softball coach for Gentry High school at two different times for a total of seven years. They finished their travel softball playing for the Legends organization, which is ran by the current Gentry Pioneers assistant softball coach, Lance Nations. The current Gentry head softball coach, Shawn Teeters, is also part of the Legends organization, by coaching a team. We all are so very proud of them, and proud to have been part of their softball journey. GO PIONEERS! Class of 2022 Gentry Graduate, Kyleigh Wheaton, plays 1st base for Delta State University in Cleveland Mississippi. Go Lady Statesmen! Class of 2022 Gentry Graduate, Mazzi Jones, plays center field for the University of Central Arkansas in Conway Arkansas. Go Bears! Class of 2024 Gentry Graduate, Favy Najar, plays right field for Neosho County Community College, in Chanute Kansas. Go Panthers!

We are aware of the storm forecast for our area and do not currently plan to dismiss early. However, after-school campus activities, including GYO, have been cancelled. Football will move to an indoor practice. Stay tuned for an update from B&G Club. We have coordinated with neighboring NWA schools and local leaders to ensure a consistent approach. Please note that dismissal may be slower than usual depending on the intensity of the rain. Thank you for your understanding.

Gentry Intermediate School’s administrators brought the Halloween spirit to life as playful villains from 101 Dalmatians, while the teachers turned into adorable puppies! The students loved the playful theme, keeping quiet about the whereabouts of the ‘puppies’ and adding to the fun. Happy Halloween from Gentry Intermediate!
